Ceramics Studio Residency Available at Nottingham
(see pictures of the studio here)

Nottingham has one studio available for rental, ideal for a ceramist. The studio is approximately 350 sq. ft. with lots of shelves, a new large slab roller and a large Skutt kiln. Resident artist would have full use of all ceramic facilities here. These include a large Soldner mixer, electric wheels, 50 cu. ft. Halverson car kiln, 30 cu. ft. West Coast kiln, Salt kilns, Raku kilns, and many other electric and gas kilns. We also have a fully stocked and equipped glaze prep lab with scales, ball mills, etc. Studio rental is $250/month plus utilities and materials plus 1/2 day per week working with the other artists on projects around the center.

The Nottingham Center for the Arts is a communal artist scene with a non-profit mission to further the arts in the San Diego area. As such, we have a core group of artists working on their own careers who also have contact with each other and many other art/craft groups in the area. The Nottingham Center hosts workshops with local arts groups such as Clay Artists of San Diego (CASD), San Diego Wood Turners, The Association of Glass Artists of San Diego, and many others.

The Ceramics Studio resident would have free access to the clay workshops offered by CASD and any clay workshops we might produce ourselves. In return; the ceramics resident would assist with these workshops.

Ours is a very well equipped facility for ceramics, glass, and woodworking. With four acres of flat industrial zoned space, one can pursue just about any area of ceramics including sculpture, Raku, salt/soda firing, wood firing, and pit firing.  There are almost no limits to a ceramist's vision and creation.

Applicants should send the following information:

  • A Bio, Resume or Curriculum vitae including instruction, degrees, workshops, etc. in clay,
as well as a list of shows, awards, etc.
  • Letters of recommendation from instructors or others as to your commitment as a ceramic artist and your qualifications and knowledge in regard to using ceramic materials and equipment.
  • A statement of purpose for your ceramics career
  • Photos of your work

What we are looking for is an artist/craftsperson who is serious about furthering their career, wants to have interaction with artists of other disciplines and who plays well with others.
